KAJO MHP Rock Breaker Grease: Choosing the Right Cartridge for Your Hydraulic Hammer
Hydraulic rock breakers operate in some of the toughest working conditions across construction, mining, quarrying and demolition. High impact loads, vibration, heat, dust and moisture place significant demands on the hydraulic hammer, insertion tool, and wear components.
KAJO®-Grease MHP, developed and manufactured by KAJO in Germany, is specifically formulated for the demanding lubrication requirements of hydraulic hammers.
But choosing the right hammer grease isn't only about the grease itself, especially on hammers over the 12t sizes where there is an auto grease pump system.
To support different hammer and automatic lubrication systems, KAJO Australia offers the MHP Rock Breaker Grease range in three different cartridges:
- KAJO MHP ROCK BREAKER GREASE – 500g Small Thread
- KAJO MHP ROCK BREAKER GREASE - 500g (Ø22mm Large Thread)
- KAJO MHP ROCK BREAKER GREASE - 400g (Ø22mm Large Thread)
Why Rock Breakers Need a Specialised Grease
Hydraulic hammers and rock breakers have very different lubrication demands from standard bearing or general-purpose grease applications.
A hydraulic hammer/rock breaker generates repeated high-impact forces to break rock, concrete and other hard materials. This creates a particularly demanding lubrication point between the socket end of the chisel and the guiding sleeve.
KAJO identifies this area as the critical wear point within the hammer. Using a purpose-designed grease helps provide a protective lubricating and separating layer between these heavily loaded components, assisting in reducing wear and protecting the equipment during operation.
KAJO®-Grease MHP has been developed specifically for hydraulic and pneumatic hammer applications, offering:
- High pressure absorption
- Wear reduction
- Water resistance
- Corrosion protection
- Oxidation resistance
Engineered for Extreme Loads
KAJO®-Grease MHP has been specifically formulated for applications involving substantial surface pressures.
Its formulation is based on mineral oil with a lithium soap thickener and incorporates a combination of 30% solid lubricants including:
- Copper
- Graphite
- Molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂)
These solid lubricants contribute to the grease separation properties and wear protection under high surface pressures and elevated temperatures. KAJO's technical data sheet specifies an operating temperature range of -20°C to +1100°C.
The product is an NLGI Grade 2 lubricant and records an OK load of 4,000 N and weld load of 4,200 N under the four-ball test detailed in the KAJO technical data sheet.
For demanding hydraulic hammer / rock breaker applications, these characteristics are particularly important where conventional lubricating greases may not be designed for the combination of impact, pressure and temperature experienced around the chisel.
KAJO MHP Cartridge Options for Different Rock Breakers
The key difference is the cartridge size and thread which must suit the rock breaker and lubrication system being used.
All three cartridge options contain KAJO®-Grease MHP, a specialist grease developed for hydraulic and pneumatic hammers.

KAJO®- Grease MHP – 500g
The KAJO®-Grease MHP 500g cartridge is designed for hydraulic hammer lubrication systems requiring a smaller thread.
It is suitable for use with the ContiLube® II lubrication system and various rock breakers such as:
- Epiroc
- Atlas Copco
- Krupp
KAJO®-Grease MHP - 500g (Ø22mm Large Thread)
For hydraulic hammer lubrication systems requiring a larger screw thread connection, KAJO®-Grease MHP is also available in a 500g Large Thread cartridge with a Ø22mm diameter screw thread.
It is suitable for various large thread rock breakers such as:
- Soosan
- Montabert
- Indeco
The cartridge is also suitable for various Lincoln (SKF) and BEKA lubrication systems.
NEW: KAJO®- Grease MHP - 400g (Ø22mm Large Thread)
The latest addition to the KAJO Meisselpaste range is the KAJO®-Grease MHP 400g G22, featuring a large Ø22mm screw thread.
This new 400g cartridge expands the range of hydraulic hammer lubrication systems that can use KAJO MHP and provides greater compatibility across selected rock breakers. The compact 400g cartridge size allows for easy handling and application, providing a convenient solution when lubricating rock breakers on site.
The KAJO®-Grease MHP 400g G22 is suitable for:
- Caterpillar rock breakers
- Soosan rock breakers
- Montabert rock breakers
- Indeco rock breakers
